I was given a “dead” ipod mini by a friend of mine for doing work on her computer…
She said the battery “didn’t work too well” and, like me, she wasn’t working at the time, so I accepted, knowing full well that I had a project on my hands :)

Doing a little google research shows that these are fairly easy to get apart and replace bits like the battery, wheel, microdrive, etc, with huge bonus!
The microdrive in these is fully, 100% compatible with compact flash memory cards! I ran to my local Micro Center, and picked up a little 8 gig to test with, along with a shiny new battery, and set about my task of rebuilding… plugged into itunes, and it was detected, formatted, and ready to roll, with no moving parts, twice the storage, and a great battery! If you can come across one of these with a bad drive or weak battery on the cheap, pick it up, do your research on the google, and have a blast with your modified mini!

i want to buy a cheap mp3 player to put ‘rockbox’ on which isn’t ebay here is the selection? thanks?
