I compared this with 2 other boomboxes in my store. All are near the $50 (w/shipping) price range. Out of the Sony ZSE5 series (the white and colored boomboxes) The NAXA NX-250 and the Cornet BH-426 I found the following. The NAXA NX-250 sounds the best, somewhat decent bass, though don’t expect great bass for less than a hundred bucksSecond in order of performance was the Cornet, with a tinnier sound and less bass than the NAXA. I does look the nicest by far out of the three. The Sony had by FAR the worst sound. Way worse than the Cornet. No bass, just totally flat mid range. The radio was hardest to pick up FM on the sony as well. If you can afford it, and Amazon drops the price back to ninety two dollars, the sony CFDG505 CFDG505BLACK DOES sound about 10 times better than even the NAXA NX-250, proving that if sony’s low end boombox is j-u-n-k at lest their mid range box is spectacular. Two other boomboxes to consider (or not)The JWIN JXCD462DS. Built quality is shoddy, I get lots of

What do you think of this idea for Music Therapy in Bipolar Disorder?
I term this specific type of therapy “Jukebox Therapy”. Write down 5 songs you like. The next time you listen to the radio or watch musiv videos have a a pen at hand. Write down every song you like. artist and title. Repeat throughout the course of a week or however long it takes you until you get 30+ songs. Download songs to a music Sony Cd Player Jukebox cd through the use of a program such as Sony Sonic Stage so it is legal. Songs cost a dollar each mostly. Put cd into player and set on mp3 make for cd. Play cd on random so the order is variant each time you hear it. Or play cd straight through and try to have songs which have abalance to them ie upbeat song such as “How to save a life” by Fray followed by a slower song called Enya “May it Be.” Another good example of a song to be used is “Shimmer” by Fuel. Good songs used for studying when one is feel stressed out or in an all or nothing attitude on whether they will ace or fail the test can be countered by classical songs such as Star Wars.Sources youtube musiv videos: “How to save a life” by Fray http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKxnJ5iyC-w”Shimmer” by Fuel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0QMfK9hzgA

It’s incredible but this player has better sound quality than three of my earlier high end players [the alloy/thin type]I like all the controls being on the device itself as against them being on a remote controller which is too fiddly and always getting in the way.The controls are pretty basic, but who really uses all those extra features much anyway? At least you’re not going to have to trash it when the lithium battery wears out as in an mp3 player, neither do you have to find a computer to recharge it.I own several mp3’s including a Sony “S” type which has the best sound for heavy metal so far,but it still can’t match the lossless sound quality of a cd or even a cd/r.You just don’t have that megabass richness for,to take an example, base guitar.[a cd/r of Dimmu Borgir's Stormblast or Opeth's Deliverance sounded quite awesome on this player]The player is quite bulky, but I suppose the reasoning went like this…why try for small and thin when the punters can go for an mp3 player if that’s what they’re into. The supplied earphones sounded pretty reasonable, but I attatched a pair of more expensive Sony MDR-ED21LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones for even better sound quality.

CD is great but ear phones have a very bad connection. Sony can do better

In spite of its claims this device rarely plays a burned CD as claimed. I have tried various brands of CDs and various rip and burn programs yet most CDs won’t play. The controls are poorly designed, it’s display window difficult to view, and the sound is at best, adequate. Finally, in what is a truly irritating feature, when playing a CD that was stopped before completion, the machine goes back to that spot no matter how many other CDs have been played. Do yourself a favor and skip DEJ011.

This is a great CD player and well worth the money. I use it when I walk and find that it doesn’t skip or jump with motion. It has good sound quality. Delivery was prompt. I am very satisfied with the product and service from Amazon.

Sony only gives a 90 day warranty. That’s how much they believe in their product. I’ve bought a bunch of Sony CD players w/ radio. Now I have 3 CD players that broke but their radios still work. I’m careful with what I put in them and in general how I handle them. This time I’ve finally wised up. I’m buying a 2-year extended warranty for my new Sony CD player. It will die for sure before 2 years. Be smart and buy an extended warranty so you don’t throw your money away.

Gives me all I was looking for except: the ear plugs are terrible – very difficult to insert and keep in ear, because of the loop that goes over the ear. Eliminate the loop, as I see featured in most portable type audio electronics.

When it does come down to it, we honestly though are sadly not seeing very many people still buying CD’s anymore. While it is sad, there are those who are not buying CD Players anymore either, and instead choosing to trade in for MP3 Players that are easier to bring their music with them. But, there are those who still want to own a simple portable CD Player, and Sony has known that for years, and they still know how to make that quality alive for anyone whom wants to enjoy a great CD Player. For those who do want a good one, this is it.

The Sony D-FJ041 is a simple and convient CD Player that delivers nothing but the basics for anyone whom wants to bring their favorite CD’s from the past and present on the go. It works great and runs on a simple 2 AA batteries. It also handles great with CD’s that you’ve burned on your computer, as well as CD’s that you’ve made from MP3 music files. The player is simple and easy to use, is very inexpensive. It also dounbles up nicely by including a simple AM / FM radio that works well. The CD’s also play well with its simple and strong Anti-skip protection. Yet, with the simple and straight-forward convience, there are a few disadvantages. The first one is that there is a relatively short batter life. Where as you used to have longer battery lives with many CD Players on the go, here this one has only about 15 hours of battery life. The second one is with the CD’s that you’d have to burn from your home computer. It will not play your CD’s if you have them in MP3 files, you’d have to convert them from MP3 or any other computer related file into the WAV files. This would honestly be the only way for them to work on the player.

All in all, there are still many people who do want great CD Players anyway, and Sony knows how to keep those media’s alive and well. I absolutely still recommend the D-FJ041 as a great buy for anyone whom has been loyal to Sony’s products for all of these years. It is still a simple and convient CD Player that works well, and handles with the strongest of all electronics. If you have previously owned a CD Player, and are looking for a new one, this would still be a great place to start.

This is a very disappointing product. (1) The all-white buttons on white background, with white raised or indented tiny type for button labels are very hard to read. (2) The button labels are not self-explanatory (e.g., how is one to know that “Enter” = “Start the CD player”?) (3) The brief instruction sheet that comes with the product is frustratingly inadequate. (4) The little control buttons around the rim are not only not labeled well, but are hard to push without accidentally pushing an adjacent button. (5) But worst of all, after using the CD player successfully only one time after I purchased this Walkman 3 months ago, it now DOESN’T WORK AT ALL! (The radio still plays, but I bought this to listen to books on CD.) (6) It is still covered by warranty, but Sony tells me I have to pay $7.00 to ship it to them plus a $31.76 repair fee. I could buy a new one for only a few dollars more–but I will never buy this brand again.

I got this to put in the bedroom to play some CD for our 1.5 year old daughter. Our “fancy” shelf system Sony 5-CD-changer(from the early 90s) stopped working, so we needed a basic, affordable CD player and this fits the bill perfectly.

It is easy to use, affordable. There is a 3mm input for you to plug in your MP3 player if you want also. The sound quality is not going to satisfy audiophiles but hey, it is more than sufficient for a toddler. It is also very cute and our daughter loves it. :)

Overall, the build quality of the unit seems very solid, it has all the functions(CD, radio, aux input) we need and it’s affordable. Highly recommended.

This items is great for children. Easy to operate and fairly sturdy. Nothing high tech here but it works well for what we bought it for.

  • Hammond says:

The thing is compact, but sounds so low that a dog can barely hear it on high.

For listening to children’s books it might be Ok, but any kind of rock
    sounds like a transistor radio.

I can barely hear it over the 14 inch fan in my basement when I work out.

    Find another radio.

  • Neo says:

Buyers Beware of this radio! Just because this is a Sony, doesnt mean you will be getting Sony quality Sound, as with most of the boomboxes that they make. What you get is a stripped down version of a boombox, with no features, expect for a line in jack, and sound that is about the worst I ever heard on a boombox. I have owned cheap boomboxes before such as Durabrand, Emerson, and Coby, and this is by far the worst one I have ever heard. Sound is this and tinny, and volume is non-existant. You have to turn up the volume almost all the way up just to hear this. This is a waste of money, and its a sin SOny put their name on this. Please buy a cheap walmart or kmart box, as they are better then this. I was lucky, I only paid 12bucks for this on Ebay, and that was even a waste of money. Do yourself a favor and avoid!

I got this unit after my Aiwa head unit gave out. I wanted a head unit with built-in HD radio and iPod playback. This radio was the best value I could find that had those capabilities. The radio sounds good, there is a small but noticeable improvement between HD stations and regular. Side note: if you want HD radio, make sure to buy a unit that has an HD tuner built in, not ‘HD ready’, which means you have to buy a separate HD tuner. Another nice touch with the radio (that I haven’t actually tried yet) is the option of ‘tagging’ a song you hear on the radio while you have your iPod plugged in, which will prompt you to purchase that song later. The iPod playback works well, I use it with my iPhone 3G (running iOS 4.0) and it works fine, it can be controlled through the radio or else you can use the controls in the phone itself (Sony calls this ‘passenger mode’ or something like that). It will also charge my phone even if I’m listening to something other than iPod. CD player also works well. I like the controls, they’re pretty easy to read, and the volume control knob has a very nice feel to it, soft rubber grip, nice clicky feel as you turn the knob. There is also ability to control output to the subwoofer from the head unit. This radio has a lot of features I haven’t tried yet. In summary:
    Pros:
    Built in HD radio
    Will playback from my iPhone
    Will charge my phone
    Good look/feel/layout of controls
    Great price

    Cons:
The only complaint I would have about this unit is that if you’re listening to the radio, and the station you’re listening to broadcasts both HD and standard, and if you’re in an area with weak signal for the HD station, sometimes the radio will quickly shift between HD and standard and back, causing a slight pause in the music that’s annoying. I wish Sony would have done something to ensure that didn’t happen.

  • Carlton says:

Found that it was a great radio for the price, included everythning I wanted. HD stations came through well, I can play my XM radio through the auxillary and my iphone through the USB. Easy to use and much more affordable than some of the other “fancy” radios.

  • Ai says:

I’m not a picky guy, it is a fine radio. You should know before you buy:

The viewing angle for the display is important. If your radio ‘leans back’ (the face tilted up a bit) like mine, you will have a very hard time reading the display.

If your radio is mounted ‘flat’ and, presumably, below eye level, you should be able to read the display fine.

So, to put this another way, looking at the display from ‘below’ is bad, from ‘above’ is good.

  • Litwin says:

The sound is great, all functions work as advertized. The only thing that held this product away from 5 stars was the faceplate itself. Sometimes the faceplate lights will go out, then I have to push on it to get it to display. I have gone over some of the bumpiest roads and it dosen’t skip a beat. Overll I am satisfyed.
