I don’t usually write reviews, but I thought this product deserved one- I was riding my bike recently, going downhill pretty fast, and the iRiver slipped out of my pocket onto the asphalt road, skidded probably over 10 meters, bouncing painfully along the way. Lo and behold, it was still playing when I picked it up, as if nothing extraordinary happened. Suffered a few scratches to the back surface but it seems fine otherwise. 5 stars for durability.

What’s wrong with Yahoo 360? I have several players and a chat box in my blog that will not appear lately?
I have never had a problem like this before. Inside my Yahoo 360 blog, I have four Playlist.com jukeboxes, one Imeem Jukebox, several Youtube videos, and an Xat chat box. The only White Jukebox Plastics thing that seems to be visible are the Youtube videos. The jukeboxes and the chat box appear as white squares only.I have tried re-entering the codes, and this does not make any difference. I have the exact same set up at several other social networking sites, and I do not have this problem. I first noticed this about 5 days ago. Other people that I know within the Yahoo 360 community are experiencing the same problems as well. Does Yahoo need to do some updating/upgrading perhaps? If anyone knows what’s going on, your advice/comments would be appreciated.

Some might argue those two qualities are the same. The player mounts in Linux when you set it up as an MSC device and you can drag and drop music. The biggest deal is that as of version 0.12.8 Rhythmbox can write playlists for the e100 that you can access from the e100. That’s important because once you have a few gb of music on there it’s a laborious process to move from song to song.

Updating the firmware is a bit of a hassle in Linux but it’s possible … for now.

Yeah the toilet. The player rates 5 stars for portability but now I would recommend an arm band. It slipped out of a back pocket and right into the toilet while it was on and playing out of its little speaker. It actually kept playing underwater for a few seconds, then something gave, bubbles started coming up and the music stopped. I fished it out after about 20 seconds. It kept making this pathetic choking sound out of the speaker. Attempts to turn it off failed. I dried it and wrapped it in toilet paper and figured that was its death shroud. It sat in there choking and sputtering for a day. Every time I tried to turn it off and put it out of its misery it just kept coughing. Eventually all was quiet. A few days later on a whim I turned it on, and it lived! I plugged it in, charged it up and it sounds just as good as it did. Oh yeah I cleaned it up too.

I’d give it 5 stars if the firmware update was easier and it was easier to navigate.

I haven’t tried video on it but jpgs are nice.

Overall I’m satisfied with it. I still don’t know how to make a playlist. But I know how to play my songs. I haven’t figured out how to make the mp3 player connect with the iriver software the player comes with. This provides a level of frustration for me, since I thought I would be able to organize my songs extensively. But I was the “informed consumer ” so any dissatisfaction is my fault. For the most part I like it. Now would I recommend it? I don’t know.
But its still simple enough understand how to preform its functions. I just have that one problem with trying to organize my music. It could just be me, but in end I am satisfied with my mp3 player.

I use it to record audio for my church with the line-in feature. After the service I download everything to my computer and edit the recording before putting on a CD or our web site. I should have gotten the 8 gig, becuase I have so many recordings still on here to share with people.
The voice recording isn’t the best-most of mine have been distorted, so I don’t even use that anymore. Otherwise, it is a great product.

    Pros:
sound and Video are pretty good.

    Cons:
Navigation is clumsy, Laborious and loses it’s position in the folder structure
    when you use radio.
Video loses its space if you stop and power off. (Although you can add a bookmark)
Froze up on me twice (but rarely)
    —-
It’s almost like creators couldn’t be bothered about efficient usability. They
were lazy and gave it little thought.
This is my third Iriver and this one has lost it for me. I bought a Sony instead.

I gave it 3 stars because as much as i HATE this player, its core operation
is OK (Sound and Video) and some beople might not be worried too much about its bad
    navigation. It’s just my opinion.

I needed a replacement player for one that broke. I was only looking for something that had an easy format for music transfer and played music well. I also needed an FM tuner for my gym to tune into the TV and occassional radio listening. All the extra stuff, I did not need, though it is almost impossible to find something without all the extra stuff. I can only write about the FM tuner use and the music player on this device at this point. I had an old version iriver with 20GB capacity that was given to me. I wish they made this with more storage. I did look at other devices/brands, but found this to be the best bargain, especially at the price I got it here on Amazon. I don’t understand why different colors were twice the price! It plays music well and file transfer is easy. The buttons are not very sensitive and it can get annoying continually trying to get to part of the menu. The FM tuner works ok. I still need to play with it more. I wish it had a direct usb to hook up to charge rather than a separate cord. Hopefully I will remember to update the review after some more use.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and you have some patience this is a decent purchase. If you plan on having an mp3 player for a long time you should probably buy better.

    Pros:
+ Small compact (Great for running)
    + Cheap
+ Easy to sync songs with Windows Media Player
    + Decent sound quality

    Cons:
    -Slow interface (Difficult while driving)
    -Terrible song organization
    -No shuffle option
-Video and photo formats are going to take a bit of work (Never really got it to work)
-Mediocre battery (10 hrs audio. It was enough for me though)
-Sometimes songs or even whole playlists would get deleted.
(But since you have playlists saved in WMP it’s a quick fix)

Basically, to deal with this mp3 player you are going to have to organize your playlists well in WMP and keep them tidy. To add songs to playlists I just updated it on WMP and replaced the one on the Lplayer. Otherwise, if you’ve recently added a new artist you can find their songs at the bottom of the artist option (Thankfully you can scroll back from the top). This size is actually pretty cool, comfortably fits into all pockets(obviously put it on hold if the pocket is tight).

I wouldn’t buy it again because I listen to my mp3 player very often in the car and it’s a pain to sit through the power up time and slow navigation. I don’t regret the purchase though because of the cheap price.

  • Leazer says:

Ok, I picked up this player on a whim really. I have a phone that does a lot of what this does, but I wanted a better picture and something that would kick out more volume. In both of these the lPlayer does fine. When I loaded some videos onto it, I watched them on the train and was very please with the picture quality and the sound.

Now, the problem is getting videos onto it. I’m a PC tech, so I figured it shouldn’t be too hard. Not true. The software is comes with is very picky about what it will convert. You can’t rip from a DVD. You can’t play MP4 files from iTunes. I spent several hours trying to find suitable converters. Try Extra DVD Ripper Free to get suitable AVI files. I’m not sure why iRiver made a video player with few options of actually playing videos. Once you have a system down, it’s fine. Setting it up is a headache.

Pictures are good and I’ve loaded up several. I haven’t tried out the music player yet, but I’m sure it sounds good.

The file organization is a problem. I spend about an hour trying to get XP to recognize it with no luck. Vista found it and the hard drive is much like a flash drive, but once the files have been uploaded to the player it seems to have problems with folders. I ripped my Blue Planet DVDs onto it into a folder called ‘Blue Planet.’ But on the player it still reads as ‘New folder.’ Whatever. Annoying but it could be worse.

All in all for $50 or so you’re probably going to be happy. Don’t expect to much, be willing to deal with some bugs and annoyances and you’ll be good to go.

this player works like a gem. great sound quality. the equalizer has many different styles to choose from. it has a radio feature with recording capabilities( which the ipod can’t do). very portable & easy to use.
iriver is a great company & one of the most underrated mp3 makers to rival the ipod powerhouse.

  • Nesbitt says:

Unless your taking sissors and scraping the thing, your iTouch is pretty safe with this cover!

  • Curran says:

this seems to work and fit well, its a great deal for the money compared to the “big box” stores

  • Culver says:

Don’t waste your money, the cover doesn’t fit and it just is not a good buy. I guess you get what you paid for.

  • Eberhard says:

I ordered this product. It took a long time to arrive but when I emailed the seller they refunded the entire amount. The product is fine but a little big for my iPod.

  • Adaimy says:

I looked at the price and forgot to read the info. It doesn’t work with an iPOD nano without some type of adapter. I didn’t go through the trouble of figuring out what type of adapter that was…

A friend suggested that I get the Belkin, because it has better transmission anyway. I went to Best Buy that day, bought it for about $85, and it works perfectly. It charges my iPOD in the cigarette lighter, too, and it works with ALL iPODs, so your friends can plug theirs in too during long car rides.

    Just go to Best Buy.
