These are the finest performing notebook drives in the PATA series. They have been so reliable that I got a bit lax about backing up. And after four years of great service, the hard disk died. I lost a lot of work. That little Dell X300 (Samsung Q20) notebook I like best had been everywhere and had been treated every way. And the drive held together. I have nothing but raves for the drives made in Hungary. After IBM sold the line and Hitachi moved the production, maybe a few things changed. It was the Hitachi version that failed while the older ones in my backup and my daughter’s laptop continue to deliver stellar performance. If, like me, you have an older machine that you want to keep using, the TravelStar isn’t perfect–but it’s as close as I’ve seen.
