I have used the Gary Fong globe for over a year. I love the results, but the Fong would occassionally fall off. (Roll across the floor, making this odd looking thing seem rediculous.) HOWEVER, it does serve a purpose. If you don’t have a good surface to bounce light from, it is wonderful. I ordered the prolight for a different size flash. I love the white and golden tops. This has a place, and works well. Definately worth the money. Fits the 580 exll very well. Have not used it enough to see if it too, falls off. I was really impressed with the speed at which this dome reached my home. 3 days from order to door. Amazing. Faster then the order placed with amazon for the 4 other items shipping from Amazon. This was sent from Rainbow direct. Could not be happier.

it does have a stong odor, like chemicals or plastic. not interferring with my pleasure one bit.

How would you feel if Dome Seeburg Israel destroyed the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and built a Jewish temple over it? Would you be fine with it? Or do you think it would be unfair? Keep the comments classy guys :]P.S. Israel is already planning this. Crazy. Just crazy.

I am torn by this product. The price is great and my photos actually come out much nicer using it BUT, it is such a thin plastic that the covers pop off the inverter and the inverter itself does not come with anything to secure it to your flash so it will slide down the flash and also make the covers pop off. If they would just make the rim a little thicker that would solve the pop off problem and make some sort of velcro strap to secure it then I think for the price it would be perfect.

As seen in the series of test photos that I uploaded, the inverted dome diffuser works very well, particularly in a wide angle setting. The biggest surprise I uncovered during testing out this diffuser was how poorly Canon 430EX projected the light. At 18mm (equivalent to 28mm full frame), the corners are a few stops darker than middle. It gives the images a tunnel vision pattern. The unevenness gets a little better as focal length increases, but is still visible at 55mm (90mm full frame). I was equally surprised by how much this inverted dome diffuser improved the image quality. I am not sure of 580EX but I think every 430EX owner should consider a small investment like this.

There are some minor issues. The most annoying one is the difficulty to mount it when the flash is on the camera. the rectangular opening is a little out of shape, making inserting the flash head in there a frustrating process. The small curve on top of 430EX (for pulling out the built-in diffuser) complicated the matter even more. The cup is rigid. Although it is not heavy, it takes space in your camera bag.

With regard to the amber dome filter, I am not sure if I will ever use it. I can also do manual white balance in camera or with a imaging processing software.

Overall, this is a durable, functional and affordable diffuser. 430EX would be a poor flash without it.

I bought this as an additional camera for my existing security camera system and it works wonderfully. I don’t have any issues with the picture quality. I can clearly make out faces and objects. It’s not an HD picture, but it actually has a slightly better picture when compared to my other cameras (12 total, several different brands). It’s only 380 lines of resolution (a TV is 480), so if you’re expecting video camera quality, you’ll have to shell out a LOT more money!

The build quality seems fine to me. If you need “vandal proof”, this isn’t the one for you anyways because it’s indoor only and doesn’t have any enclosing dome. The only thing I’d change is a wide angle lens. The lens on the camera (6mm) is standard for security cameras, but you’ll want something wider (like a 5mm) if you want to cover a small room with one camera. For larger spaces, this should work fine. Actual infrared range is about 25 feet.

If you need an additional camera, save yourself the money and buy this one. I’ve uploaded 2 images that I screen captured from this camera to show the picture quality.

Purchased three of these cameras from Amazon for indoor use. Camera quality is quite dissapointing.

The video extension cable is garbage and totally unsheilded, I was actually picking up radio stations using the cable that came with the camera, not to mention the horrible picture.

If you do purchase this camera, be sure to buy or make up your own video cable…

This a great camra if your on a budget hooked it up in 30 mins. I can see 15 feet at night with about 5 feet of shadow images. the only thing is in order to see from afar you can’t mount it on the ceiling. If you mount it on the ceiling the object or scene your watching has to be at least 10 feet away. I hooked it up under my open garage on the side top wall and works flawlessly. My garage is 2 cars wide and I can see in the shade very clearly about 35 feet but when it hits out of the shade the screen gets whiter and whiter. In high noon screen is white out of the shade. I WILL BUY MORE IN THE FUTURE……..

Picture quality, construction quality, Night Vision, and Field of Vision are all a letdown and I returned it right away. For the price, I suppose this is still a good “deal”, but if you want an excellent quality Dome Camera with decent Night Vision, superb build quality, and a wide angle view look at the unit labeled “vandal proof dome camera”, also from Amazon. It is more expensive, but has a VERY hefty and sturdy feel to it. Range of IR is greater and MUCH less granulated, resolution in daytime is fantastic, and one unit in the corner of a square room or backyard can cover nearly everything. This product may be adequate for some applications, just be aware that it is very low-end. (I suppose I should give credit that it also includes audio, but given that this is advertised as an “indoor camera” one would wish for a much wider field of vision.)

It appears by the picture that you are receiving 5 domes for a low price of $5.49. In actuality you receive 1 dome for $5.49 + $4.?? for s/h charges. I think the picture misrepresents the product that you are purchasing. I feel deceived.

  • Ling says:

In spite of the needlessly snotty comment by another reviewer, I agree with K. Patten, the listing is a bit deceptive, although I don’t know if this is intentional, or merely sloppiness.

And while it is true that the pricing is a bit of a clue, I saw low quality dummy cameras for a buck a piece a while back in one of the electronics surplus catalogs, so it isn’t completely out of the question.

When you think about it, it is a small, lightweight piece of plastic, and a blinking led (the blink circuitry is on the led’s die). There are kid’s toys out there that come packed in a piece of plastic with a blinking led as an attention getter – and that’s the part you throw away! I see no reason a low grade “least cost” unit couldn’t go for this price, although I agree it would normally be sold for a little more. In any case, there are better looking units for sale here than this one, although they do cost slightly more.

Note to J. Serdynski: If you read so well, why did you misspell K. Patten’s last name? (twice!) And why are you so angry at the world that you savaged this person twice, once in your review, and again in a comment under their review? Just wondering, and hoping you can get past the whole anger thing.

This is a good rugged camera. Working great. The construction is all metal so it has a nice solid heavy feel to it. Images are decent in day and night operation. And the price is nice. It includes the power supply brick and a camera surveillance sticker. Don’t forget to order cable… I ordered 100 ft Video power Siamese BNC RCA cable for CCTV Security Cameras CBV100 1JE they also have this in 50ft, but I got the 100ft for more leeway. Shipping was fast and it arrived neatly packed from Warehouseseller.

Works like a charm…softens flashes for more natural lighting. I mainlu point my flash upwards, whether I shoot horizontally or vertically. Most times (not sure if the diffuser or the flash) I have to overexpose my flash by about 1 1/3 or 1 2/3 more to get the look I desire. When I point flash directly, add at most 2/3 more flash exposure.
Haven’t used the orange head yet. When I tested it out, it gives the overall look an orange cast, as one might imagine! Don’t see a need for it with my photography, but it’s always nice to have more than you need, right?

Fits tightly on flash – I’ve never had a problem with it falling off. Able to mold it to fit into your bag, but I have a Lowepro bag and it fits tightly once I zip it up.

Glad I received info to get this one as opposed to the Gary Fong one…saves me money and I imagine it works exactly the same! Highly recommended!!!

  • Fasching says:

It’s pretty loose on my 430 EX II, but fits great on my 580 EX II…

The light is great… diffuse and gives a nice glow. I use this for events and have been happy with it thus far.

And for quite a bit cheaper than Fong diffuser, which is an overpriced piece of modified tupperware…

  • McKinnis says:

Works well. I usually use this in portrait evening shots with the sun setting in the background. At these times, this add a good fill-in flash without looking like a flash was used.
Soft plastic becomes distorted when stored. But once installed on flash and cap is put on, it forms back to its spherical shape.
